Opening Night Flowers remains fully open, booking and maintaining scheduled wedding & event contracts. The “new norm” was a silver lining and momentous opportunity to curate nature for everyday celebrations and corporate gifting solutions.
Nicholas Smith, the Owner and Creative Director of Opening Night Flowers, Wedding & Event Design, is an award winning designer with over a decade of experience in the event industry.
Opening Night Flowers was on track to have one of our most successful years until COVID-19 hit last March. Smith is one of Canada’s top floral designers, but even he is not immune to the pandemic. Smith was devastated when he saw nearly every event and wedding booked fall off his books. As a small business owner, he knew his only choice was to pivot Opening Night to keep his business & passion alive.
Introducing:Bloom Service & Bloom Service Bistro.
We are a brand committed to providing customers in Toronto with unique and luxurious floral delivery arrangements, gifts and treats delivered to enjoy in the comforts of their own homes.
“The impact of this pandemic has been catastrophic to our industry,” said Smith. “Like many businesses, Opening Night Flowers was decimated by this pandemic and we needed to change in order to adapt to our new reality. Large-scale events and celebrations no longer existed. Our business took a catastrophic downturn as a result. We wanted to be able to still bring joy into peoples’ lives during such trying times, and that’s how Bloom Service was born. Like many other small business owners, we had to completely change our service and delivery models. Within a few short weeks we had to adapt to a whole new world of e-commerce, B2B marketing, delivery platforms and social media to reach customers. The only alternative was to close our doors.”
Check out this recent study. People who have flowers in their home feel happier and more relaxed which decreases stress-related depression.
The need to be happier and less anxious has never been more real as Canadians’ mental health is on a rapid decline.
With Bloom Service you're not only supporting a local business, but you're creating a more beautiful home environment. According to this study, that can help combat the mental health crises Canada is currently facing.
In addition to carrying out the mission to bring people joy, we, at Bloom Service are deeply devoted to sourcing local & sustainability.
Smith has even created his own tulip farm, Bloom Smith Fields, this past year as part of a greater mission to reduce the environmental impact associated with the intensive farming of fresh flowers. Beyond the production, there is also a large carbon cost of transporting the flowers to not only customers but to event and decor businesses, like Opening Night Flowers. We are striving to make our floral production as least impactful to the environment as possible. We will continue to be devoted to this as the business scales.
We recently partnered with various hotels and restaurants to offer treats and luxury gifts through a new concept “Bloom Service Bistro”. It is available on UberEats this Mother’s Day (May 2021). Order your desired Bloom Service floral arrangements with a twist of different restaurants unique menu items (Think: salads, sandwiches, desserts, spa and cocktail kits, and, of course, fresh flowers, preserved bouquets, orchids and terrariums.) We strive to create Instagrammable and luxury experiences in your home. What a special gift for the Mom or Women in your life.
Now, more than ever, it is crucial to supportlocal small businesses and do anything we can to bring people happiness,” said Smith. “We believe in our mission and hope that our business will make it out of the other side of this pandemic stronger than ever. We want to create moments of joy and happiness for people until we can celebrate life’s most cherished events in person again.”
